Rita Suessmuth

Born 17 February, 1937 in Wuppertal, Germany. Rita Suessmuth received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Munster in 1964 and taught at he University of Dortmund until becoming active in politics in the German CDU Party, From 1985 to 1988 she was the Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. She was a Deputy of the Bundestag from 1987 to 2002, became its President in 1988 and lost the post in 1998 when the SPD Party gained a majority in the Bundestag.
